Overview

Student Life at Cottonwood Day School
Cottonwood Day School offers students a well-rounded academic and social life experience that preserves their heritage while preparing them for the future. Our curriculum, programs, and activities provide various opportunities to take full advantage of our educational program. Our young Navajo scholars benefit from a holistic educational plan incorporating core academics, practical life skills, and Native language and culture studies.
Athletic/Physical Education Programs
Sports competitions and P.E. programs develop students’ minds, bodies, and spirits. In addition to staying physically fit throughout the school year, students increase confidence and build character. The school and community unite while participating and supporting student-athletes. Our recreational activities include baseball, softball, volleyball, basketball, and various student clubs. Students must also maintain good grades and attendance to participate.
Navajo Language/Culture
Cottonwood Day School teachers and community members provide students many opportunities to express and identify with their Navajo language and culture. Our knowledgeable teachers, community members, and Tribal leaders cooperate with our school community by sharing valuable lessons, workshops, traditions, and tutorials on the Navajo language and culture.
STEM
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) is an exciting field of study, and it’s becoming more accessible to students of all ages. Students who love to solve problems, collaborate with classmates, develop new ideas, and utilize their math and science skills will find that the STEM program offers these opportunities, preparing them for 21st-century educations, careers, and lives.
After School Tutoring
Cottonwood Day School understands that sometimes students need more instructional hours than the classroom allows. Students can find that extra time during our after-school tutoring sessions. Dedicated teachers and staff re-engage students with any subject matters covered during the school day. After-school tutoring ensures that every student progresses at the same pace as the rest of their class and advances to the next grade level.
21st Century Program
The 21st Century Program provides our Navajo community with learning centers outside regular school hours. Students meet state and local standards in core academic subjects like reading and math. The program also introduces students to practical skills and activities that complement their academics. Students can also benefit from extracurricular programs like art/music, mentoring programs, counseling services, and entrepreneurial education.
Student Clubs
Whether bonding over academics, arts and crafts, or sports, Cottonwood Day School students will find other students with like minds and interests through various clubs within our community. A student club is an opportunity to discover new talents and develop lifelong friendships.
